Asserting that modern equipment brings transparency to the system and improvement in the quality of policing on various fronts, the Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Dilbagh Singh directed on Monday for identifying the areas where more and more technology can be put to use and also for preparing action plans for introducing the technologies in these areas.

DGP J&K Singh made this statement while chairing a high-level meeting at the Police Headquarters to review various technologies being used by the J&K Police and the need for futuristic technologies for efficient policing.

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP stated that although many latest technologies and upgrades of gadgets have already taken place in the department, the survey and adoption of futuristic technologies are the need of the hour. He emphasized the need to use artificial intelligence, drones, closed-circuit television (CCTV), robotics, and other modern technological tools for the safety and security of the people. He also mentioned the importance of identifying the manpower and technology that can be used to enhance the capabilities and capacity of the police personnel. He highlighted that police forces around the world are using numerous modern technologies for efficient policing and reducing human intervention in rescue and other operations.

DGP Singh directed the identification of areas where more and more technology can be utilized and the preparation of action plans for introducing these technologies in those areas.

During the meeting, existing technology solutions and future technologies were discussed, including GIS mapping systems, data security, learning management systems, integrated traffic management systems, latest communication systems, and the upgrading of training centers.

Previously, DGP Singh was briefed through a PowerPoint presentation on the technology being used in the Security, Traffic, CID, Crime, Telecom, and Training wings of the J&K Police.

The officers also briefed DGP J&K about the technological tools for crime prevention and investigation, which include Predictive Policing, big data analysis, and mobile forensics.
